[лат. odor — запах]химические вещества, добавляемые в горючие углеводородные газы или воздух для одоризации — придания им характерного, предупреждающего запаха — и в химические препараты бытового назначения как душистые вещества (см. дезодоранты). Основные требования к О.: отсутствие токсических свойств и способность конденсироваться при транспортировании и хранении газов, химическая инертность к составляющим газов или бытовых препаратов. О. служат, как правило, серосодержащие соединения — меркаптаны и сульфиды.
