    (1.) Глагол to know относится к группе глаголов умственного восприятия, которые не употребляются в форме Continuous всех временных групп. К этой группе глаголов, кроме глагола to know, относятся глаголы to believe, to depend, to forget, to imagine, to mean, to realize, to remain, to remember, to think, to suppose, to understand. (2.) Русское выражение "узнать кого-либо поближе" передается сочетанием to get to know smb better. В остальных случаях русское "узнать что-либо" передается глаголами to learn, to find out, оборотом to get to know (а не глаголом to know) (3.) Not перед прилагательным с отрицательным значением делает предложение утвердительным: frost and snow are not uncommon at this time of the year мороз и снег в это время года обычны; it is not unlikely that... вполне вероятно, что... (3.) В сочетаниях с именной группой, в составе которой есть короткое (немногосложное) прилагательное, not стоит перед неопределенным артиклем: not a bad idea! не плохая идея; not an easily question to answer нелегкий вопрос. В тех случаях, когда прилагательное многосложно (три и более слогов), not употребляется после неопределенного артикля: it is a not unreasonable suggestion это вполне разумное предположение. (4.) Not стоит перед последующим инфинитивом: I asked him not to be late. (5.) Not употребляется в коротких репликах с глаголами суждения to believe, to hope, to suppose: Is he ill? I hope/believe not.
