Cada 5 de noviembre los británicos celebran Bonfire Night para conmemorar la Conspiración de la Pólvora ( the Gunpowder Plot). En esa misma fecha en 1605, un grupo de conspiradores católicos, encabezado por Guy Fawkes, intentaron volar el Parlamento inglés cuando el rey Jaime I se encontraba en su interior. Sin embargo, fueron descubiertos y ejecutados. En la actualidad es un acontecimiento que carece de significado político o religioso.
