Paul rejoices in supplying what his Master has left him to suffer (s. Photius, Ep. 253 p. 190–93, esp. p. 193, 77–82). After receiving his apostolic assignment, Paul assumes the burden of sufferings that would befall Christ were the latter to undertake the apostolic mission in person.
