8 Nominal clause
1) Придаточное предложение, выполняющее в предложении функцию имени существительного (Noun). Как и имя существительное, может находиться в составе разных членов предложения.was right. (именное придаточное предложение в роли подлежащего). — То, как он поступил, было правильно.I demand that you should restore to the Company the twelve millions which have been abstracted. (именное придаточное предложение в роли дополнения). — Я требую, чтобы вы возвратили Компании изъятые у нее двенадцать миллионов.

2) Именные придаточные, образованные с помощью союзов.а) that.Союз that может быть опущен, если находится не в абсолютном начале предложения. Если that вводит предложение со значением побуждения или пожелания, то в придаточном предложении может употребляться форма сослагательного наклонения ( см. Subjunctive).Придаточное, введенное союзом that, после некоторых глаголов может заменяться местоимением so (см. such, so, 4).should be obvious. — Что деньги не растут на деревьях, должно быть понятно.They demanded that Sir Philipp resign his position. — Они потребовали, чтобы сэр Филипп отказался от должности.

Герундиальный оборот ( ing- clause) также, как правило, выполняет в предложении ту же функцию, что и имя существительноеis a waste of time. — Смотреть телевизор - это пустая трата времени."Gendarmes," cried he to the men guarding the gate, "prevent anybody from entering the house, and above all, let no one go into the garden". — "Жандармы", - крикнул он людям, охранявшим ворота, - "проследите, чтобы никто не входил в дом, а главное, никого не впускайте в сад".
