7 Mock Seam
This consists of a thread inserted all the way down the back of the leg of a seamless stocking to give the impression that it has been made in a flat piece like the fully-fashioned article which has its two edges joined subsequently by a seam. It may be done on the seamless machine as the stocking is being knitted or a seam of thread may be rapidly inserted at a subsequent operation. Both the mock fashionings and the mock seam have a very definite usefulness as they indicate the centre line of the stocking to the launderer who is thus able to keep them straight. Without this mock seam, it is often difficult to prevent twisting or corkscrewing of the hose. -
8 Mock Fashioned
This refers to the marks made on a seamless stocking when at the usual fashioning points are given open stitches produced by the jacks used for the automatic welt turning. These open stitches are placed on each side of the centre needle along back of the leg. They are intended to imitate the narrowings made at the calf of the leg and again at the ankle, but in real narrowings two stitches are superimposed on other two. With mock fashion marks, the stitch is open in character and no real narrowing or reduction in the number of loops is effected. -
9 Mock Grandrelle Yarns
These are single yarns spun from double roving, one of which is coloured to simulate the effect of a two-fold grandrelle obtained by twisting two threads together. Mock grandrelle being only a single yarn, is not as strong as two-fold of equivalent count, but it is cheaper. A grandrelle effect may also be obtained by printing the yarn.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Mock Grandrelle Yarns
