Наменет е за чување на често користени податоци и програмски инструкции кои не можат да се сместат во РАм меморијата, а со него управува виртуелната меморија како проширување на РАм меморијата. За разлика од постојаниот фајл за размена, зазема помал простор на дискот но операциите на читање и запишување се побавни. Спореди: permanent swap file. Техника за проширување на РАм меморијата на компјутерскиот систем со искористување на дел од слободниот простор на тврдиот диск. многу програмски пакети користат виртуелна меморија. Кога во РАм меморијата нема доволно простор да се внесат сите податоци и програми, апликацијата автоматски креира еден таканаречен фајл заразмена (swap file) и во него (на дискот) ги сместува инструкциите и податоците.
