Наменет е за чување на често користени податоци и програмски инструкции кои не можат да се сместат во РАм меморијата, а со него управува виртуелната меморија како проширување на РАм меморијата. Кога во РАм меморијата нема доволно простор да се внесат сите податоци и програми, апликацијата автоматски креира еден таканаречен фајл заразмена (swap file) и во него (на дискот) ги сместува инструкциите и податоците.
