Один из рисков, связанных с ведением рыночных операций. Сравни: counterparty risk (риск противоположной стороны). Очевидными рыночными рисками являются покупка на рынке, цены или конъюнктура на котором затем падают, или продажа на рынке с повышающимися ценами. Такие риски можно уменьшить путем хеджирования/ страхования от потерь (hedging), в первую очередь за счет фьючерсных контрактов (fiitures contracts) или опционов (options), но целиком исключить нельзя никогда. Эти рыночные риски представляют из себя оборотную сторону рыночных возможностей, которые позволяют спекулянтам получать прибыль. Элементом рыночного риска может быть валютный риск (currency risk). Так покупатель американских ценных бумаг в Лондоне, который уплачивает за них в фунтах стерлингов, сталкивается не только с риском падения цен на эти ценные бумаги в США, но и с риском неблагоприятного соотношения валютных курсов доллара и фунта.

Риск, связанный с изменениями конъюнктуры всего рынка (напр., инвестиционного) под влиянием макроэкономических факторов. Он возникает для всех участников этого рынка и не может быть устранен путем диверсификации портфеля ценных бумаг (инвестиционного портфеля), так как в процессе колебаний конъюнктуры всего инвестиционного рынка уровень цен отдельных финансовых инструментов инвестирования изменяется аналогично рыночному индексу в целом. Разница между ожидаемой ставкой дохода (rate of return) на инвестиции и ставкой дохода на свободные от риска капиталовложения (например, инвестиции в государственные ценные бумаги) в течение одного и того же периода времени. При наличии любого элемента риска ставка дохода будет выше ставки дохода на инвестиции, при которых риск отсутствует.

Норма прибыли, добавляемая к безрисковой норме, чтобы отразить риски, связанные с тем или иным вложением средств (инветицией). То есть это дополнительная сумма, выплачиваемая (или предусмотренная к выплате) инвестору сверх того уровня, который может быть получен по безрисковым хозяйственным операциям. Этот дополнительный доход должен возрастать пропорционально увеличению уровня риска вложений капитала в тот или иной инструмент инвестирования. При этом следует иметь в виду, что премия за риск должна возрастать пропорционально росту не общего уровня инвестиционного риска по тому или иному инструменту, а только систематического (рыночного) риска, уровень которого определяется с помощью коэффициента бета (т.к. риск несистематический связан в основном с действием субъективных факторов).- См. также:Вознаграждение за риск.
