Schwyzer 719). δια- might mean `from all sides, completely (s. Schwyzer-Debrunner 450 n. 2); the long vowel may be from comp. lengthening (but Ruigh, Lingua 25 (1970) 320 objects that only the first vowel of the second member can be lengthened).
