  • 63 -quite-

    Nota d'uso
Quite ha due significati principali. Innanzitutto, si può utilizzare con aggettivi che hanno vari gradi di intensità con il significato di “piuttosto, abbastanza”: It's quite expensive, è abbastanza costoso; The play was quite good, la commedia fu piuttosto bella. Inoltre, si può usare con aggettivi che non hanno gradi di intensità, e in questo contesto significa “completamente, del tutto”: you're quite right, hai completamente ragione; the results were quite amazing, i risultati furono fantastici. Con questo secondo significato, quite si usa anche nel senso di “davvero”: I quite agree, sono davvero d'accordo; It is quite simply the best film I've ever seen, è davvero il miglior film che io abbia mai visto.
