Прерывание одного или более линейных проводников, производимое при помощи автоматического срабатывания защитного устройства в случае повреждения.
При повреждении основной изоляции опасной токоведущей части электрооборудования класса I возможно её электрическое соединение с открытой проводящей частью. В результате этого на открытой проводящей части электрооборудования класса I может появиться опасное для человека и животных напряжение. Автоматическое отключение питания, являющееся мерой защиты от поражения электрическим током, ориентировано на быстрое отключение электрической цепи (прерывание её линейных проводников) при появлении в ней аварийного электрооборудования класса I.
Для реализации автоматического отключения питания в электроустановке здания должны быть выполнены следующие мероприятия:
установлены защитные устройства, с помощью которых производят автоматическое отключение питания в течение нормируемого времени;
выполнено защитное заземление открытых проводящих частей электрооборудования класса I;
выполнено защитное уравнивание потенциалов.

Выбор независимых источников питания осуществляет энергоснабжающая организация, которая в технических условиях на присоединение указывает характеристики внешних источников питания.
Из указанных характеристик разработчику проекта электроснабжения предприятия рекомендуется обратить особое внимание на ряд факторов, определяющих бесперебойность питания электроприемников при аварийном отключении одного из независимых источников питания.6.5.3. Внутрицеховые питающие силовые сети могут выполняться как магистральными, так и радиальными. Выбор вида сети зависит от планировки технологического оборудования, требований по бесперебойности электроснабжения, условий окружающей среды, вероятности изменения технологического процесса, вызывающего замену технологического оборудования, размещения цеховых ТП.
