STOP, ARREST, CHECK, INTERRUPTПереходный глагол stop означает 'заставить остановиться': to stop a train, to stop a running horse. Stop также означает 'прекратить' (и в этом значении употребляется с герундием); to stop running (talking). Arrest имеет значение 'задержать, приостановить': to arrest a child's development, to arrest the progress of a disease. Check также употребляется в значении 'задержать, приостановить' и может взаимозаменяться с глаголом arrest; check в значении 'прекратить' взаимозаменяется с глаголом stop: to check (to arrest) the advance of the enemy; to check (to stop) the interference.
