(Solmsen Unt. 35, Chantraine Gramm. hom. 1, 100f.); or Aeolic assimilation from - νσ- (e. g. Schulze Q. 128 A. 2, 173, Lejeune Traité de phon. 110; also Schwyzer 300)? The zero grade of ( σ)επ- (IE sekʷ̯-) in the aorist ἐνι-σπ-εῖν (ipv. ἔσπετε \< *ἔν-σπ-ετε). On the preverb ἐν- Chantraine Rev. de phil. 68, 117, Schwyzer-Debrunner 457. A verbal noun is OIr. insce `discourse' \< IE * en(i)-skʷ̯-iā; further in Celtic, e. g. OWelsh hepp `inquit'. In Lith. (dial.) sekù, sèkti (further in Balto-Slavic replaced by Lith. sakaũ, -ýti `say', Russ. sočítь `indicate').
