The original European "monospace" vehicle, first produced in 1984 byRenault. The initial concept for the Espace was actually conceived in the Rootes/Chrysler design facility in Coventry, England; this facility was associated with Chrysler's French subsidiary, Matra-Simca. Since then, the Grenelle de l'Environnement has become an ongoing forum for debate on the adaptation of government policy to environmental imperatives. Projet débuté en mai 2007, l’Encyclopedia of Life sera une vaste encyclopédie collaborative en ligne rassemblant les connaissances existantes sur toutes les espèces animales et végétales connues (1,8 million), y compris les espèces en voie d’extinction, avec l’ajout de nouvelles espèces au fur et à mesure de leur identification (il en existerait de 8 à 10 millions). Il s’agira d’une encyclopédie multimédia permettant de ressembler textes, photos, cartes, bandes sonores et vidéos, avec une page web par espèce, et permettant aussi d’offrir un portail unique à des millions de documents épars ça et là, en ligne et hors ligne. Outil d’apprentissage et d’enseignement pour une meilleure connaissance de notre planète, elle sera à destination de tous: scientifiques, enseignants, étudiants, scolaires, médias, décideurs et grand public. Ce projet collaboratif est mené par plusieurs grandes institutions (Field Museum of Natural History, Harvard University, Marine Biological Laboratory, Missouri Botanical Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Biodiversity Heritage Library). Il est estimé à 100 millions de dollars US, sur une durée de dix ans, avant de pouvoir s’autofinancer. Le financement initial est assuré par la MacArthur Foundation (10 millions de dollars) et la Sloan Foundation (2,5 millions de dollars). La réalisation des pages web débutera courant 2007. L’encyclopédie devrait faire ses débuts à la mi-2008, être opérationnelle dans trois à cinq ans et être complète (c’est-à-dire à jour) dans dix ans. En tant que consortium des dix plus grandes bibliothèques des sciences de la vie (d’autres suivront), la Biodiversity Heritage Library a d’ores et déjà débuté la numérisation des 2 millions de publications des bibliothèques partenaires. En mai 2007, date du lancement de l’encyclopédie, on compte 1,25 million de pages traitées dans les centres de numérisation de Londres, Boston et Washington DC, et disponibles sur le site de l’Internet Archive. -

Le reflowing est une technique permettant de reformater automatiquement un livre et sa pagination en fonction de la taille de l’écran utilisé. Les formats basés sur l’HTML (hypertext markup language) et le XML (extensible markup language) autorisent le reflowing. Le reflowing est possible pour tous les formats dérivant de l’OeB (open ebook), lui-même basé sur l’HTML/XML. Bien que le format PDF (portable document format) ne soit pas basé sur l’OeB, l’Adobe Acrobat version 5 permet de créer des documents PDF autorisant le reflowing, même si la numérotation des pages du document initial reste figée. En mai 2003, la version 6 de l’Adobe Acrobat permet le reflowing sans problème sur l’Adobe Reader, le nouveau logiciel remplaçant à la fois l’Acrobat Reader et l’Acrobat eBook Reader. -
