       1) California: 1856. General Spanish term for money; its usage in the Southwest is frequently considered slang or colloquial.
       2) Texas: 1920. A cook on a ranch or trail drive. The DARE suggests that this term is a play on dine or dinner. The Spanish term for cook, cocinero, which shares the ending - inero, probably contributed to this wordplay.
