Провода служат для передачи электроэнергии. В верхней части опор над проводами для защиты ВЛ от грозовых перенапряжений монтируют грозозащитные тросы. Опоры поддерживают провода и тросы на определенной высоте над уровнем земли или воды. Изоляторы изолируют провода от опоры. С помощью линейной арматуры провода закрепляются на изоляторах, а изоляторы на опорах. В некоторых случаях провода ВЛ с помощью изоляторов и линейной арматуры прикрепляются к кронштейнам инженерных сооружений.
