IMMINENT, IMPENDINGImminent и impending означают 'грозящий, неминуемый' (об опасности, катастрофе, грозе и т. д.): imminent collision 'неминуемое столкновение', imminent death 'неминуемая смерть', imminent disaster 'неминуемая катастрофа', impending discovery 'грозящее разоблачение'. Imminent предполагает непосредственную угрозу, impending имеет в виду опасность, существующую в течение длительного времени и, может быть, не грозящую немедленной катастрофой.
