To intend è usato principalmente con il significato di “avere intenzione di”, “volere”, e viene spesso seguito da un altro verbo: He intended to kiss her that night, aveva intenzione di baciarla quella sera. Anche to mean significa “avere intenzione di”: He meant to come, aveva intenzione di venire. Il significato principale di to mean, però, è “intendere” nel senso di “voler dire”, “significare”: What do you mean?, che cosa vuoi dire? Non si può usare to intend in questo senso.
