1 Prater
Vienna's largest and most popular amusement park. In 1766 Joseph II, the son of Empress Maria Theresa, decreed that der Prater should be open to everyone. Earlier it had been forbidden to enter forests and meadows reserved for imperial hunts. The Prater has old-fashioned swings, skittle alleys, and merry-go-rounds, including the oldest carousel in Europe.
