    Русское хватать не указывает на способ совершения действия, его направление. Для обозначения сопутствующих обстоятельств и способов совершения действия в русском языке используются приставки — схватить, выхватить, ухватить и словосочетания крепко, грубо, быстро и т. д. хватать.
    В английском языке для подобных характеристик действия используются разные глаголы. И в русском, и в английском языках эти глаголы многозначны и употребляются как в сфере физических действий, так и в интеллектуальной сфере (хватать за рукусхватить мысль).
    1. to seize (tсхватить si: z) хватать, схватить, схватывать, охватывать, взять ( чтолибо) (как и русское схватить употребляется в разных ситуациях: физического действия ( схватить за воротник) и эмоционального состояния (гнев охватил), особенно если необходимо быстро и неожиданно взять что-либо с какого-либо места или задержать кого-либо): to seize smth — схватить что-либо; to seize smb by the hand — схватить кого-либо за руку The thief seized the money and ran out of the bank. — Вор схватил деньги и выбежал из банка. Seizing the woman's purse, the youth ran off into the crowd. — Выхватив у женщины кошелек, подросток смешался с толпой. Weapon and ammunitions were seized last night in a police raid. — Bo время полицейской облавы вчера ночью были захвачены оружие и боеприпасы. Не was seized with anger. — Его охватил гнев.     2. to snatch — хватать, схватить, выхватить, ухватить, ухватиться, урвать (быстро, часто с применением силы, с преодолением какого-либо препятствия): Не snatched the letter from the man's hands. — Он выхватил письмо из рук мужчины. Не snatched his hand away. — Он отдернул руку ( схваченную кем-либо)./ Он выдернул руку ( схваченную кем-либо). I saw him snatching somebody's bag. — Я видел, как он схватил/украл чью-то сумку. Someone snatched my wallet in the crowd. — В толпе кто-то стащил у меня кошелек.     3. to grasp — (как и русское схватывать глагол to grasp многозначен и используется как в сфере физических действий, так и в сфере умственных действий): a) хватать, схватить; схватывать, ухватить: to grasp at the chance/at the opportunity — ухватиться за шанс/возможность ( сделать что-либо) I stood still, my hands grasping the edge of the table. — Я стоял неподвижно, вцепившись в край стола. She grasped his hand and pulled him towards her. — Она крепко схватила его за руку и притянула к себе. Falling down he tried to grasp at the railing but failed. — Падая, он пытался ухватиться за поручень, но не смог. The child grasped me by the shoulders clinging to me. Ребенок прижался ко мне, крепко ухватив меня за плечи. b) понимать, усваивать, схватывать: I found it difficult to grasp the meaning of his words. — Мне было трудно уловить смысл его слов.     Русский глагол хватать/хватить в значении «достаточно» в английском языке передается разными частями речиглаголами и сочетаниями с прилагательными enough и sufficient и наречием enough, которые указывают на различные обстоятельства, при которых что-либо оценивается как достаточное или недостаточное.
    1. to be up to (smth) — хватать, хватить, хватает (для того, чтобы суметь справиться с чем-либо): Не is not up to this job. — Он с этим не справится. She isn't really up to long walks at the moment. — Она сейчас пожалуй не справится с длительными прогулками./Она сейчас вряд ли сумеет долго ходить пешком.
    2. to be up to doing smth — достаточно умный, достаточно хороший, достаточно подходящий (для какого-либо дела); быть в состоянии ( что-либо делать), годиться ( для чего-либо): She is not up to walking long distances. — Ей не пройти большое расстояние./Ее не хватит на большие расстояния. She is not up to chairing the conference. — Она не годится для того, чтобы возглавить конференцию./Она не сможет вести конференцию. They are not yet up to running such a profitable business. — Они пока еще не в состоянии вести такой выгодный бизнес. I'm sure he has enough courage to do it. — Я уверен, у него хватит смелости это сделать.
