= relational database modelмодель структуры БД, разработанная в конце 1960-х гг. Эдгаром Коддом (E. F. Codd), математиком корпорации IBM, и представленная в известной работе "A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Databanks". Она построена на понятии отношения (relation) - двумерной таблицы, предназначенной для упорядоченного хранения данных. Каждая таблица состоит из записей (горизонтальных строк, называемых также кортежами, tuple) и полей (вертикальных столбцов, называемых также атрибутами, attribute).
