гессенские наемники, гессианцыОтборные немецкие солдаты-наемники, воевавшие на стороне Британии в период Войны за независимость [ War of Independence]. Колонисты часто презрительно называли их "гессенскими мухами" [Hessian fly]. Их общая численность составляла около 30 тыс. человек, и они участвовали во многих кампаниях. Их поражение под Трентоном [ Trenton, Battle of] в декабре 1776 подняло моральный дух американцев, ранее считавших гессианцев неуязвимыми. После этого события многие немцы дезертировали, с окончанием войны значительная часть осталась в США и Канаде. Характерной частью униформы наемников были шнурованные сапоги [Hessian boots]. -
