Изоляция опасных токоведущих частей, предназначенная для обеспечения основной защиты.
Когда основная изоляция находится в неповреждённом состоянии, не может произойти прямого прикосновения, поскольку основная изоляция препятствует прикосновению человека и животных к находящимся под напряжением опасным токоведущим частям. При условиях отсутствия повреждений не может быть косвенного прикосновения, поскольку открытые проводящие части электрооборудования отделены от опасных токоведущих частей основной изоляцией. Поэтому они не могут оказаться под напряжением и представлять опасность для человека и животных.
