    "Друзья"
    Более распространенное название - квакеры [ Quakers]. Христианская религиозная организация, основанная в 1652 англичанином Дж. Фоксом; имеет свои отделения в 50 странах мира. В основе религиозной доктрины квакеров лежит вера в божественное начало, заложенное в каждом человеке. Из-за преследований в 60-х гг. XVIII в. многие квакеры эмигрировали в Америку. В 1681 английский квакер У. Пенн [ Penn, William, Jr.], приобретя земли в колониях Восточный Джерси и Пенсильвания, основал на них первые поселения квакеров на американской земле. Штаб-квартира организации "Генеральная конференция друзей" [Friends General Conference] находится в г. Филадельфии, шт. Пенсильвания. Ведет активную просветительскую работу, занимается филантропической деятельностью. Другие квакерские организации в США: "Объединенное собрание друзей" [Friends United Meeting], "Интернационал евангелистских друзей" [Evangelical Friends International] и "Общество друзей" [(Religious) Society of Friends]. Эти организации в общей сложности насчитывают несколько более 100 тыс. членов.
