1 Florissant
Город на востоке штата Миссури, северный жилой пригород г. Сент-Луис [ St. Louis], у р. Миссури [ Missouri River]. 50,4 тыс. жителей (2000). Поселение было основано испанцами в 1786 под названием Сан-Фердинанд [San Ferdinand]; французские переселенцы и трапперы [ trapper], переименовали его в честь окружающей цветущей долины (франц fleurissant); статус города с 1857; новое название было официально принято в 1939. Город стал центром миссионерской деятельности иезуитов, создавшими в городе Семинарию Св. Станислава [St. Stanislaus Seminary] (1831). Сегодня - центр туризма. Храм Святого Фердинанда [Old St. Ferdinand Shrine] (1819-20) считается старейшей католической церковью между р. Миссисипи [ Mississippi River] и Скалистыми горами [ Rocky Mountains]. Среди достопримечательностей - старинный центр города [Old Town], где находятся исторические постройки: дом Альвареса [Casa Alvarez] (около 1790), дом Огюста Обюшона [Auguste Aubuchon House] (около 1800), дом Баптиста Обюшона [Baptiste Aubuchon House] (около 1832) и др. Христианский колледж Сент-Луиса [St. Louis Christian College] (1956). -
