Научно-технический прогресс
Аспект функционирования рынка, определяющий масштабы научно-технических разработок и внедрения фирмой новой, более совершенной продукции, новых технологических процессов и методов сбыта. Изобретения и нововведения позволяют фирме сокращать издержки производства и распределения, что в свою очередь дает ей возможность снижать цены на свою продукцию. Теория издержек основывается на предположении, что фирмы действуют в рамках существующих технологий как в краткосрочном, так и в долгосрочном периоде. Однако в течение очень длительного периода времени научно-технический прогресс все же способствует сокращению издержек. В более широком смысле научно-технический прогресс является движущей силой экономического роста (см. Economic growth).
