δί-πλαξ, ακος, doppelt zusammengelegt, aus zwei Lagen bestehend; vielleicht verwandt mit πλέκω, vgl. Latein. duplex, Curtius Grundz. d. Griech. Etymol. 1, 134. Bei Homer fünfmal: Iliad. 23, 243 δίπλακι δημῷ Versende und vs. 253 δίπλακα δημόν Versende; substantivisch ἡ δίπλαξ, ein Mantel, den man doppelt umnehmen kann, Doppelmantel, accusat. δίπλακα πορφυρέην Iliad. 3, 126. 22, 441 Odyss. 19, 241. Da es Iliad. 3, 126 heißt ἡ δὲ μέγαν ἱστὸν ὕφαινεν, δίπλακα πορφυρέην, πολέας δ' ἐνέπασσεν ἀέϑλους Τρώων ϑ' ἱπποδάμων καὶ Ἀχαιῶν χαλκοχιτώνων und Iliad. 22, 441 ἥ γ' ἱστὸν ὕφαινε – δίπλακα πορφυρέην, ἐν δὲ ϑρόνα ποικίλ' ἔπασσεν, so hielten Einige δίπλαξ für Bezeichnung eines Gewandes mit doppeltem oder doppelfarbigem Einschlag, eines buntgewirkten Mantels; beide Erklärungen neben einander in einem Schol. Iliad. 3, 126, δ ίπλα κα: διπλοΐδα χλαῖναν, οἱ δὲ δίμιτον χλαῖναν. Aristarch hielt die erste Erklärung für richtig. Scholl. Aristonic. Iliad. 3, 126 ἡ διπλῆ, ὅτι παραλέλειπται τὸ κύριον, ἡ χλαῖνα. λέγει δὲ δίπλακα χλαῖναν ἣν ἔστι διπλῆν ἀμφιέσασϑαι; vgl. Schol. Iliad. 22, 441 δίπλακα: διπλοΐδα, ἣν οἷόν τε διπλῆν περιβαλέσϑαι und Lehrs Anm. in Friedländers Aristonicus zu Iliad 3, 126. – Antp. Th. 82 (VII, 413) nominat. δίπλαξ; Orph. frgm. 2, 57 δίπλακα ϑεσμόν; Aesch. Pers. 277 πλαγκτοῖς ἐν διπλάκεσσιν sehr verschieden erklärt, s. die Ausleger, vielleicht am Einfachsten von den Mänteln zu verstehn, in denen die Leichen der Perser auf dem Meere treiben.
