Es de antiguo ya sabido entre las hidalgas y nobles gentes de estos maravillosos y embrujantes valles y montañas, que cuando los gitanos hacen algún ladronizo, engaño o timo, siempre se ausentan antes que las personas del lugar se despierten para descubrirlos, y así fue en aquel acontecer, pues cuando Pín el Topo ya con el día alumbrado del todo, fue a su cuadra a ordeñar y cebar al ganado, lo primero que hizo fue mirar con marcado profundo a su nuevo pollino, y lo vió recio, con genio espantadizo, pareciéndole a él, que después de la buena hartura de la excelente hierba que había comido, parecía más lucido su pelaje, y hablando consigo mismo muy contento se decía, que nada más que se alejara el hambre de su cuerpo, aquel pollino iba a ser muy renombrado en la aldea. —Después de arreglar las dos vacas paridas que tenía en el establo, porque el otro ganado que tenía por aquella época estaba en el puerto pastiando, le dió su mujer el desayuno, que consistía en una escudilla grande de harina cocida, comida a la par de la espumosa leche recién ordeñada, y después que se hartó, le dijo a su mujer, que iba a ir hasta el puerto, para ver como se encontraba el ganado, y que iba montado sobre el burro, para observar su fuerza y las otras maneras que pudiera tener. Así fue que sacó al pollino de la cuadra cogido de su ramal hasta la corralada de su casa, donde su mujer le esperaba para mirar por primera vez aquel burro tan aponderado de su marido, y nada más que sus ojos le repararon con interesado deseo, díjole muy contenta a su marido, que hubiese hecho según su apreciación un buen trato. —Pín el Toípu mientas le aparejaba con la albarda del otro pollino que de pequeña que era casi no le valía, le decía a su mujer lleno de alegría y endiosado por sentirse agudo y listo ante los ojos de su mujer. —Yo oír no oigo mucho por causa de la sordera, pero a vista e inteligencia muy pocos me alcanzan. La su mujer que era una inocentona, se reía muy feliz hacía su listo marido, y entrambos por aquel pollino en aquellos momentos se sentían felices, y a la par que Pín montaba en su pollino a su mujer le hacía, que muy pronto estaría de vuelta, y seguido le daba al burro con el callado casi, casi como halagándole para que se pusiese en camino, y así lo hizo el buen pollino, no deteniéndose en su camino, hasta que su hocico no tropezó contra la puerta de la casa del satírico, que en aquel suceder también estaba desayunando las papes, y ante tal golpetazo, dejó su escudilla saliendo con rapidez a la calleja, donde vio a Pín el Topo dando vueltas a caballo de su burro de un lado para otro de la calle, sin poder conducir aquel condenado asno, por mucho que lo intentaba con el callado y las bridas para ensenderarlo en el surco del caminar enderechura, cosa que el desgraciado pollino no podía hacer, porque se encontraba tan ciego como el topo, y no descubrió este mal Pín, sino que fue su vecino Satírico, que era un verdadero águila en el oír, ver y pensar en cualquier rica o pobre cosa, y como buen satírico que era le habló a Pín de esta manera: —Disdi güéi Pín el Xordapu tou l'aldina chamarate Pín el Toípu, perque hay que tar de cegaretu comu isti llabrador xin llabiegu, pa nun ver disdi prinxipíu qu'isti pótchin nun vei goteira per dagún de lus dous güetchus. Pín se apeo de su asno sin pronunciar palabra, a la vez que halagaba al pollino, dándole a entender que no estaba enojado con él y asiéndole por el ramal le volvió a atar dentro de su establo, lo desaparejo y le dio un buen brazado de hierba, y sentándose en el pesebre junto a él, comenzó a hablarle de la siguiente forma: —No pienses mi pollino que estoy enojado contigo, porque te encuentras completamente ciego, yo se muy bien que eres un buen pollino, grande, fuerte, sano y entero, como si fueses de la parada de los sementales, por esto, de ahora en adelante, yo seré tus propios ojos y tu harás los mis trabajos, yo te llevaré bien conducido por el ramal y harás los mismos quehaceres de los demás pollinos de la aldea, lo único que no podré será el ajinetarme encima de tu lomo, pero de todos los demás labores, se que no dejarás de hacer ninguno y hasta puede que los realices mejor que el más avispado de tus hermanos de burrería, por está razón te digo, que casi me encuentro contento de haber realizado tu trato con los condenados gitanos, pues por haber hecho tal negocio con ellos, al resultarme tú del todo ciego, mis vecinos me quitaron desde hoy el nombre de Pin el Sordo, desde el mimo momento que el Puchegu me llamó Pín el Topíu, que es lo mismo que si me bautizase el cura de nuevo. —Aquel gigante de ciego pollino, bien dirigido por el inteligente Pín el Topo, con tal precisión realizaba todos sus trabajos, que era querido, aponderado y respetado, no sólo por las gentes de mi aldea, sino en todas las otras que la rodeaban. Y era tan renombrado aquel excepcional pollino, porque hacía cosas que jamás habían sido hechas por ningún otro pollino aunque tuviese los ojos con buena vista, el ciego burro, que siempre tenía el pesebre lleno de buena hierba, que érale para él manjar divino, engordó y se rehizo, al tenor que iba sacando la miseria y el hambre de su cuerpo, y como era aun joven dentro de lo que cabía, se hizo un pollino aún casi mejor que los que tenían de sementales en la cuadra de la parada. —Un día su vecino el Puchego, le dijo a Pín que su pollina andaba en el celo de necesitar semental, y que si le dejaba que su pollino la cubriera. Pín que no alcanzaba el hacer las sátiras tan bien niveladas y agudas como el Puchegu, que fue capaz de cambiarle el nombre de Pín el Sordo por el de Pín el Toípu, si que su pensamiento casi siempre navegante en la inteligencia le alumbró lo siguiente. —Como mi ciego pollino es semental de postinera parada, y no sólo por su gallarda presencia, sino porque tal parece que también tiene una pequeña alma, si tú deseas que cubra a tu pollina, me tienes que pagar por tal servicio un duro, y esto a ti que eres vecino de la puerta de casa, pero a todas las demás gentes que quieran pedirme lo mismo que tú, les cobraré dos pesos más, pues tener en el establo una descendencia de mi pollino, es lo mismo que poseer la mayor joya de toda la burrería.
