[лат. dexter — правый, правосторонний и лат. - an(e) — суффикс, используемый для имен углеводородов]гомогликаны, представляющие собой сильно разветвленные полисахариды c большим молекулярным весом (см. полисахариды), синтезируемые некоторыми микроорганизмами при культивировании в присутствии сахарозы (напр., бактериями рода Leuconostoс). Синтез Д. осуществляет фермент декстрансахараза; разрезаются Д. различными микробными эндо- и экзодекстраназами (см. декстран-деградирующие ферменты). У микроорганизмов Д. выполняют разнообразные функции: оказывают защитные и адгезивные эффекты, обеспечивают сохранение сахаров от их деполимеризации. Д. широко используют в пищевой, текстильной и бумажной промышленности, применяют в качестве заменителя плазмы крови (препарат полиглюкин), служат основой для получения молекулярных сит (сефадексов).Толковый биотехнологический словарь.
