Отщепление воды от молекулы неорганич. или органич. соединения. Д. м. б. осуществлена термически (в присутствии катализаторов), или химически, при действии дегидратир. агентов (вещ-в, связыв. воду, напр. Р2О3, H2SO4). Примером д. неорганич. вещ-в может служить образование N2O3 из HNO3 под действием Р2О5.
К д. относятся тж. процессы удаления кристаллизац. воды из кристаллогидратов и воды, связ. силами адсорбции. Эти процессы чаще называют «обезвоживание». Д. — процесс, обратный гидратации.
