[лат. de- — приставка, означающая отделение, удаление, уничтожение, отмену чего-либо, и folium — лист]пестициды, ускоряющие опадение листьев у растений (см. дефолиация (2)). Действие Д. связано с интенсивным образованием в растении этилена — природного регулятора роста, способствующего формированию у листьев отделительного слоя. К Д. относятся несколько видов органических и неорганических соединений: Mg(ClO3)2.6H2O, Ca(ClO3)2 в смеси с CaCl2, фолекс (C4H9S)3P, бутифос (C4H9S)3PO, 2-хлорэтилфосфоновая кислота (этефон) СlCH2CH2Р(О)(ОН)2, хлорат и бораты Na, какодиловая кислота (CH3)2As(O)OH, CaCN2 и др. Д. используют для предуборочной обработки хлопчатника, в небольших масштабах Д. применяют для обработки виноградной лозы, сои, томатов, а также для подготовки саженцев плодовых деревьев к перезимовке.Толковый биотехнологический словарь. 1) The drop of foliage from plants caused by herbicides such as Agent Orange, diuron, triazines, all of which interfere with photosynthesis. The use of defoliants, as in Vietnam or in jungle clearance for agriculture, can permanently destroy tropical forests. Once the tree cover is removed, the soil is subjected to erosion and precious nutrients are rapidly leached away.
2) Destroying (an area of jungle, forest, etc.) as by chemical sprays or incendiary bombs, in order to give enemy troops or guerilla forces no place of concealment.
