Перекрестная эластичность спроса
Степень реагирования величины спроса на один товар на изменение цены на другой товар. Коэффициент перекрестной эластичности спроса - это отношение процентного изменения величины спроса на товар А к процентному изменению цены товара В. Если потребители рассматривают оба товара как взаимозаменяемые товары (см. Substitute products), тогда увеличение цены на товар B (например чай) неизбежно вызовет рост спроса на товар А (например кофе). В данном случае перекрестная эластичность спроса является величиной положительной. Если потребители рассматривают оба товара как взаимодополняемые (см. Complementary products), тогда рост цены на товар B (например чай) вызовет снижение спроса не только на этот товар, но и на товар А (например сахар). В этом случае перекрестная эластичность спроса будет отрицательной, т.к. увеличение цены на товар B влечет за собой сокращение величины спроса на товар А. Измерив перекрестную эластичность, можно определить, являются ли рассматриваемые товары взаимозаменяемыми или взаимодополняемыми. Если незначительный рост цены на товар B вызывает существенное увеличение спроса на товар А (высокая степень перекрестной эластичности), то товары являются близкими субститутами. Комплементарные (взаимодополняющие) продукты. Товары или услуги, спрос на которые является «совмещенным» (joint demand), т.е. рост цен на один из этих товаров приводит к снижению спроса на другой.
