Com·mon·wealth of 'Na·tions n¿ Kultur?Das Commonwealth of Nations (früher British Commonwealth) ist eine freiwillige Organisation unabhängiger Staaten, die nach und nach aus dem alten British Empire hervorgegangen ist. 1931 wurde es offiziell mit dem Statute of Westminster gegründet. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren Kanada, Australien, Südafrika und Neuseeland bereits selbstverwaltet und bildeten zusammen mit dem Vereinigten Königreich die ersten Mitglieder. Die meisten der anderen früher von Großbritannien regierten Länder haben sich mit ihrer Unabhängigkeit entschieden, dem Commonwealth beizutreten. Heutzutage verbindet die Organisation in erster Linie die kulturelle und wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit.
