Nota d'usoTutti questi verbi vengono usati con il significato di “iniziare”, ma hanno sfumature diverse. To commence è un termine formale, raramente usato nel parlato: Building of the bypass commenced in 2006 and was completed a year later, la costruzione della circonvallazione è cominciata nel 2006 e si è conclusa un anno dopo. To start (a differenza di to begin o to commence) si usa anche nel senso di “partire, far partire”, sia col significato di “avviare, mettere in moto” – The engine won't start, il motore non parte, to start a machine, mettere in moto una macchina – sia in quello di “mettersi in viaggio”: If we start early, we'll miss the traffic, se partiamo presto, non troveremo traffico. -
