Способность магнита удерживать постоянный магнетизм, если магнит помещен в магнитное поле обратного направления. Коэрцитивность измеряется напряженностью обратного поля, требуемой для уменьшения намагниченности полностью намагниченного магнита до нуля.

3.10 коэрцитивная сила (coercivity) (HcM = HcJ): Величина, количественно определяемая как напряженность непрерывно прилагаемого магнитного поля, которое уменьшает намагниченность до нуля от первоначальной максимальной намагниченности, действуя в противоположном к ней направлении.
Примечание - Интерес представляет величина, измеряемая в направлении, параллельном продольной оси магнитной полосы (ИСО/МЭК 7811-6).
