5 codage
Le codage (ou encodage) permet de convertir des caractères en langage informatique, celui-ci étant le plus souvent un langage binaire (0 ou 1). Le premier système de codage est l’ASCII (American standard code for information interchange), publié en 1968, qui traduit chaque caractère sur sept bits. Etant donné le nombre de systèmes d’écriture à traiter dans notre monde multilingue, on utilise de plus en plus l’Unicode, un système de codage sur 16 bits spécifiant un nombre unique pour chaque caractère et prenant en compte toutes les langues de la planète.
