Часто данные нужно сначала извлечь из какого-либо источника (часто OLTP-системы), преобразовать (выполнить денормализацию, просуммировать по какому-либо показателю и т.п.) и загрузить в БД. Этот процесс называется ETL. Одна из основных задач ETL - определить, какие данные были изменены после последней загрузки хранилища. Технология Change Data Capture позволяет отслеживать все изменения, сохранять информацию о них в таблицах изменений и просматривать изменения за нужный промежуток времени.
