Nota d'usoNon è corretto tradurre attenzione con “attention” quando si vuole indicare un pericolo imminente. In questo caso, infatti, si utilizzano le locuzioni “be careful” e “watch out”, o il verbo “to mind”: Attenzione il pavimento è ancora bagnato, be careful the floor is still wet, (non attention, the floor is still wet), Mind the gap, attenzione al gradino. Anche su cartelli o segnali stradali vengono usati altri sostantivi, come “caution” (per indicare un pericolo) o “warning” (per avvisi): Attenzione: attraversamento bambini, caution: children crossing; Attenzione: i taccheggiatori verranno perseguiti a norma di legge, warning: shoplifters will be prosecuted. La parola “attention” viene utilizzata quando si vuole richiamare l'attenzione nei confronti di qualcuno che parla: Posso avere la vostra attenzione, prego?, can I have your attention, please?
