Nota d'usoPartially e partly sono essenzialmente sinonimi e hanno il significato di “parzialmente”, però si usano in contesti leggermente diversi. Partially si usa soprattutto per dire “non totalmente, in modo incompleto”: facilities for the blind and partially sighted, servizi per i non vedenti e gli ipovedenti; the state of siege round the city has been partially lifted, lo stato di assedio attorno alla città è stato parzialmente tolto. Partly si usa più spesso di partially, soprattutto col significato di “in parte”: Performance is assessed partly by examination and partly by written course work, il rendimento è valutato in parte attraverso un esame e in parte attraverso prove scritte durante il corso; Partly because of the poor financial state of the economy and partly because of the weather, profits were down last year, in parte a causa della grave situazione economica e in parte a causa delle condizioni meteorologiche, i profitti l'anno scorso furono bassi. -
