41 Lustre Cloths
These are unions of cotton and wool - usually cotton warp and Alpaca, mohair, or other lustre wool weft. Such fabrics as alpacas, Brilliantines, Glaces, Sicilians, etc., are lustres. A typical lustre cloth is made plain weave 50-in. wide, 40 ends and 48 picks per inch, 2/80's dyed cotton warp and 16's mohair weft. Reeded one end in a dent. The warp is dyed black. This cloth is a Sicilian. -
42 Lustre Yarns
Wool term for lustre wool such as Lincoln and Leicester which makes strong yarns for fabrics where much wear and strength are required. Single and two-fold counts are produced up to 30's and 2/36's or 2/40's. Mohair and alpaca wools are also termed lustres, and all are worsted yarns. -
43 Madonna
A fancy alpaca cloth made in Yorkshire in the 19th century. The weave was plain with silk stripes. -
44 Orleans Linings
A fabric made in Bradford, and used as a lining for dress goods. Yarns are fine cotton warp, worsted weft, either plain weave or figured, and generally dyed. Other styles have a mixture weft of cotton and alpaca. -

47 Princess Twill Lining

VICUNA, or VICUNIA, or VICUGNAThe animal that provides the finest wool in the world with hairs only half as thick as fine merino wool. The vicuna is one of the camel tribe and is a native of Southern Peru. Its scientific name is Lama Vicunia. It is a graceful swift little animal like a small antelope. The annual production is estimated at 10,000-lb. to 12,000-lb. Weight for weight it is said to be the warmest of all wools. Its natural colour is dark tobacco colour of good fastness. It dyes like wool, but requires more dye to attain a given depth of tone. It is capable of imparting the utmost smoothness, softness and closeness to fine black coatings and is used thus by Bradford and other manufacturers. ———————— Another species or variety of the Genus Auchenia.
