Plain weave cotton fabrics made in India from native cotton. They are coarse and heavy, abut 40 X 32 per inch, 14's / 12's. Cheaper varieties are made from yarns spun from various native plants, and better styles have wild silk used as weft. Also called Bethilles. -

3 Bethilles
Cotton fabrics woven in Orissa, India, on hand looms from hand-spun cotton yarns and designs of coloured stripes (see Allegias). During the 18th century the French applied this term to the printed and plain cotton fabrics imported from Madras and Calcutta.
