[лат. activus — действенный]хлопьевидная масса из взвешенных в аэрируемой сточной жидкости микрочастиц, образующаяся при очистке сточных вод в аэрационном бассейне (см. аэротенк). А.и. создается из взвешенных частиц, не задержанных первичным отстойником, и адсорбируемых коллоидных веществ с размножающимися на них микроорганизмами (бактериями, простейшими, водорослями и др.). А.и. значительно ускоряет процессы окисления и очистки сточных вод в результате поглощения его частицами органических веществ и бактерий.
