[греч. aktis (aktinos) — луч и myces — гриб]высокотоксичные антибиотики полипептидной природы (см. пептидные антибиотики), имеющие характерную красную окраску; продуцируются микроорганизмами рода Streptomyces. А. являются ингибиторами ДНКзависимого синтеза РНК; они преимущественно связываются с участками ДНК, богатыми гуанином, и осо бенно с участками, где чередуются остатки гуанина и цитозина. Впервые обнаружены З. Ваксманом и Х. Вудруффом в 1940 г. в культуральной жидкости Streptomyces antibioticus.см. также актиномицин DТолковый биотехнологический словарь.
