Моми [ Maumee River], у южной оконечности озера Эри [ Erie, Lake]. 313,6 тыс. жителей (2000), с пригородами 618,2 тыс. человек. Порт (уголь, железная руда, зерно). Черная и цветная металлургия; производство узлов и деталей для автомобилей; химическая и стекольная промышленность; нефтеперерабатывающие заводы. Толидский университет [Toledo, University of] (1872), Медицинский колледж Огайо [Medical College of Ohio] (1964). Близ современного города в 1794 произошла Битва у поваленных деревьев [ Fallen Timbers, Battle of]. Первое поселение основано у форта Индастри [Fort Industry] (1794), построенного Э. Уэйном [ Wayne, Anthony]; приток переселенцев усилился после победы американской армии над коалицией англичан и индейцев (1813). Созданные в 1817 поселки Порт-Лоренс [Port Lawrence] и Вистула [Vistula] объединились в 1833, образовав г. Толидо. Некоторое время на земли претендовали два штата - Мичиган и Огайо. Бескровная "Война за Толидо" [Toledo War] (1835-37) закончилось, когда федеральные власти передали Толидский клин [ Toledo Strip] Огайо, а Верхний полуостров [ Upper Peninsula] - штату Мичиган. Индустриализация в 30-40-е гг. XIX в. Связана с прокладкой железных дорог, каналов Уобаш-Эри [ Wabash and Erie Canal] и Майами-Эри [Miami and Erie Canal], открытием месторождений нефти, природного газа и угля. Среди достопримечательностей - Художественный музей [Toledo Museum of Art], зоопарк [Toledo Zoological Gardens].
