5 Russian Flax
Russian flax is known as Slanetz which is dew-retted, Motchenetz, water-retted, or Siretz the name of the ungraded fibre. Siretz comes chiefly from Petrograd, the others from Riga, Archangel and other parts. Each kind has many local names. -

Large quantities of wool of various types are grown in Russia, and most of it finds its way into Russian and Polish mills, and occasionally to Germany also. The merino wools from South Russia are often very fine, but lack the elasticity of Australian merino, and appear " leaner," " weftier " and without the full crimp so prominent in good-class wools. The crossbred and carpet wools also lack character, being less uniform in fibre build, and often require to be graded down. -

A very heavy blanket with thick nap on both sides, made of wool warp and coarse mohair weft, usually in coloured stripes or bars in the weft. The nap is long and the blanket weighs about 6-lb. to 7-lb. for 72-in. X 60-in. -

An all-wool costume cloth, plain weave, made 50-in. to 74-in. wide. The cloth is well shrunk. -
10 Russian Cords
A combination of plain stripes with bold cords which often differ in colour from the ground. The cords form a very bold solid rib down the piece, and are made by working several thick cords together, with a douping thread crossing from side to side at every pick. This crossing thread is about three times the length of the ordinary warp. -

Diaper fabrics made of linen yarns having a double diamond pattern of larger size than the Irish diapers. It is made in four sizes 21-in., 24-in., 26-in. and 33-in. -

A stout linen or hemp fabric used for window blinds, etc. It is usually embroidered in fancy designs with silk and cotton thread. The hemp used is said to be prepared with seal oil and has an unpleasant odour in consequence, but this soon passes off on exposure. -

Trade name for a fine, clear-faced twill fabric, made of wool yarns with right-hand twist. Piece-dyed. Used for dress material. Made 70-in. wide, 42 ends and 36 picks per inch, 7 run warp, 6 run weft. Weave 8-end twill. Weight about 93/4 oz. per yard (all particulars are loom). -

The term used for fine cotton large mesh net having patterns woven in, used as veiling. -
