Плауэн, город в федеральной земле Саксония, "столица" саксонской части Фогтланда. Расположен в долине реки Вайсе Эльстер (Weiße Elster), правого притока реки Зале, в окружении лесов. Традиционный центр текстильной промышленности, особенно кружевных тканей, поэтому его образно называют "кружевной город", "город плауэнских кружев" ("Spitzenstadt", "Stadt der Spitzen"). Здесь находится единственный в Германии музей кружев. Старая ратуша – жемчужина поздней готики, интересны часы с движущимися фигурами. Позднеготический створчатый алтарь местной церкви (ок. 1500) создан для ляйпцигской церкви Томаскирхе, но потом перевезён в Плауэн. В 1958-1964 гг. вблизи города построено Пёльское водохранилище (Talsperre Pöhl), называемое за свои размеры (объём 62 млн. куб. м, 27 км береговой полосы) "Фогтландским морем" ("Vogtländisches Meer"). Популярное место отдыха и занятий водным спортом. Статус города с 1224 г., первое упоминание "vicus Plawe" ("offene Siedlung" – "открытое поселение") в 1122 г. → Sachsen, Vogtland, Plauener Spitzen, Saale, Thomaskirche
