The name given to a variety of gown introduced during the reign of Charles VI and which became very fashionable in the reign of Richard II. " It was a loose gown that a man could wrap himself up in." It is also applied to a one-piece garment worn by women in the early 15th century, consisting of a close-fitting waist, and exceedingly long full skirt that formed a long train, and either bell or tight sleeves. The skirt and sleeves were generally lined with fur. -
