En el sistema reformado de A level, el AS representa la primera etapa de las dos en que se divide el programa de A level, ver A level. El AS tiene lugar en el penúltimo año de la enseñanza secundaria. N ABBR(Brit) = National Vocational Qualification NVQ La National Vocational Qualification o NVQ es una titulación profesional dirigida sobre todo a personas que ya han entrado en el mundo laboral, aunque en algunos casos puede cursarse también durante el período escolar, a la vez que o en vez de algún otro título académico como los GCSEs o los A-levels. La evaluación se hace a través del trabajo práctico realizado durante el curso y a través de exámenes orales y escritos. Este sistema funciona en Inglaterra, Gales e Irlanda del Norte, mientras que en Escocia funciona un sistema similar, el llamado Scottish Vocational Qualification o SVQ.
