Characēne, Χαρακηνή), Geburtsort des Periegeten Dionysius u. des Geschichtschreibers Isidorus, Plin. 6, 138 sqq. – Dav. Characēnus, ī, m. (Χαρακηνός), aus Charax, der Charazener, Isidorus Ch.; bes. Plur. Characēni, ōrum, m. (Χαρακηνοί), die Einw. von Charax od. von Charazene, die Charazener, Plin. – II) eine Befestigung an der schmalsten Stelle des reizenden Tales Tempe in Thessalien, j. Carisso, Liv. 44, 6, 10 (wo griech. Akk. -ca).
