1 Beating
A simple operation in silk preparation which consists of beating the cocoons so that they open easily, and allow the fibres to be unwound. ———————— A wool term for the extra threads running loosely from the warp during weaving. They are placed in the warp for the purpose of replacing broken ends, uneven yarn, or missing ends, and also for repairs during the process of hurling and mending. It is the custom for each warp to have several threads over the number required to produce the cloth. If coloured yarn is used then one or more of each colour is provided. -
